College Basketball Podcast: UConn beat writer Kevin Duffy discusses the 2013 Huskies, first-year coach Kevin Ollie and the future of the Big East

College hoops are in full-swing, and one team that has surprised fans across the country is the UConn Huskies. A program that is suspended from NCAA Tournament play and was left for dead just a few months ago is thriving under first year coach Kevin Ollie and while the Huskies might not be playing this March, they’ve still had an interesting season to date.

And on Wednesday, I was lucky enough to be joined on my podcast by UConn beat writer Kevin Duffy to discuss all the major talking points around the program. Kevin is a great resource for Huskies chatter, as well as what’s going on in the Big East and college hoops as a whole.

He and I discussed the following topics:

- What’s the attitude around the program without an NCAA Tournament to play for? Kevin has been impressed by the effort that the team plays with, and the ability of head coach Kevin Ollie to get every ounce of talent out of a small and thin roster.

- Speaking of Ollie, Kevin shares his take on how the coach has handled the NCAA Tournament in his first season at the school. Not only has the new coach been able to get his team playing hard, but he has also been surprisingly efficient with the X’s and O’s as well. It also raises the question: Could former head coach Jim Calhoun have done any better?

- What will the future of this program be as the Big East continues to disintegrate around them? Kevin believes that the infrastructure is in place with Ollie, but obviously the program needs the stability of a new conference.

- Finally, we wrap up by Kevin discussing some of the big themes heading into the second half of the year. Can Shabazz Napier stay healthy? Can this team keep up their high energy level? And can they play spoiler to the rest of the Big East?

Folks if college hoops is your passion, than this is a podcast you’re simply not going to want to miss. No one is more immersed in UConn hoops than Kevin Duffy and nobody will give you insight quite like he does as well. This is a podcast that discusses much more than just basketball and is something all fans will enjoy.
